Description
This product is a single wall shelf crafted from a natural walnut slab retaining one original live edge on the front side, while the back side is straight‑cut to fit flush against the wall. The slab has been kiln‑dried to 8‑10% moisture content, planed flat on the top and bottom surfaces, and sanded to 180‑grit smoothness. It is finished with a penetrating hard wax oil that partially fills the grain but leaves the wood pores open for natural breathability. The dimensions vary slightly due to the live edge, but the nominal length is 60 cm, nominal depth is 16‑19 cm (tapering along the length), and thickness is 2.5 cm. The bark has been completely removed, and the sapwood and heartwood show natural colour transitions from light tan to dark chocolate, with occasional mineral streaks and small knots that have been stabilised with cyanoacrylate adhesive. Two forged steel bracket arms are included; each measures 15 cm in projection and is fixed to the wall with three screws. The shelf rests on top of these brackets and is secured from underneath with two counter‑sunk screws per bracket (pilot holes are pre‑drilled into the underside of the slab). The brackets have a matte black powder‑coated finish. The maximum recommended load is 8 kg, uniformly distributed, when installed into solid masonry or studs. The live edge side is somewhat fragile; sharp impacts may cause chipping along the thin edge sections. The hard wax oil provides good water repellency for occasional spills but is not a film finish – water droplets should be blotted within five minutes to avoid water rings. The walnut wood will darken naturally with exposure to light over time, which is a normal characteristic of the species. The total weight of the slab and brackets is 2.2 kg. The product is supplied with wall anchors, screws, and a printed template for bracket positioning. It is not suitable for bathrooms, outdoors, or areas with frequent temperature fluctuations exceeding ±10°C within a day.
