Description
This multifunctional wall unit combines a wooden display shelf with a built‑in magnetic strip along the lower front edge for holding ferromagnetic kitchen knives. The shelf is made from solid acacia wood, a dense tropical hardwood with a natural oil‑wax finish that is food‑contact safe once fully cured. The shelf measures 50 cm in width, 14 cm in depth, and 2.5 cm in thickness. Along the front underside, a 40 cm long neodymium magnetic bar is embedded flush with the wood surface, covered by a thin stainless steel protective plate to prevent direct contact between knife blades and the magnet. The magnetic holding force is rated at approximately 2.5 kg total vertical pull when knives are applied with full blade contact over a length of 15 cm; however, actual holding capacity varies significantly depending on blade thickness, steel composition, and contact area – knives with low ferrous content (e.g., high‑end austenitic stainless steels such as 18/10 or VG‑10 with low magnetic permeability) may not hold securely. The top surface of the shelf provides a flat area for storing up to five small spice jars, a single coffee bean canister, or a small timer, with a maximum surface load of 3 kg. The unit is fixed to the wall using two heavy‑duty steel brackets that are screwed into the underside; each bracket requires two 8 mm wall anchors (supplied). The acacia wood has a Janka hardness of approximately 2,200 lbf, providing excellent resistance to denting and scratching from daily kitchen use. The oil‑wax finish is not a hard film and offers moderate water repellency, but it is not resistant to acidic foods (lemon juice, vinegar) or high heat; spills should be wiped within two minutes. The magnetic strip is not a certified knife holder and does not include any locking mechanism; knives are held solely by magnetic attraction and may fall if bumped or if the wall is subject to vibration. The product should be installed at a height that keeps knife tips out of reach of children. The total empty weight is 1.9 kg. It is supplied fully assembled; the wall brackets are pre‑attached. Installation requires a level, a drill with an 8 mm bit, and a cross‑head screwdriver. This product is suitable for home kitchens but not for commercial or high‑humidity environments (dishwasher steam, open‑pot boiling adjacent) where the oil finish may degrade faster. The magnetic strip is not intended for cleavers or knives heavier than 400 grams individually.
