Description
This wall display ledge is specifically designed for showcasing framed photographs, postcards, and small art prints without requiring individual wall nails for each frame. It is constructed from solid ash wood, a dense and shock‑resistant hardwood with a pronounced grain pattern, finished with a clear satin nitrocellulose lacquer that provides a low‑sheen protective layer. The unit comprises a single horizontal board 70 cm in length, 12 cm in width, and 2 cm in thickness, with a dedicated 4 cm high back rail rising vertically from the rear edge to act as a leaning support for the frames. The front edge is slightly rounded (3 mm radius) to minimise edge damage to frames during placement. Additionally, there is a 2.5 cm wide continuous groove routed into the top surface, 3 cm from the front edge, which can hold the lower edge of frames up to 2 cm thick, preventing them from sliding forward. The usable display depth – from the back rail to the front groove – is approximately 9 cm, sufficient to support frames with a base depth of up to 8 cm at a slight backward lean. The shelf can accommodate up to five standard 10×15 cm photo frames, three 20×25 cm frames, or a mix thereof, provided the total width of the frames does not exceed 70 cm. The lacquer finish is resistant to dry dust and minor handling marks but is not scratch‑proof; sliding metal frames directly across the surface may leave fine scratches. The ash wood has a Janka hardness of approximately 1,320 lbf, offering good structural rigidity. The unit mounts to the wall via three concealed keyhole brackets recessed into the back of the back rail – these are spaced at 20 cm, 35 cm, and 50 cm from the left edge, requiring three 6 mm screws into the wall. The supplied hardware includes wall plugs and screws for masonry; for stud walls, it is recommended that at least two of the three screws are driven into timber studs. The recommended total load is 4 kg, which corresponds to approximately 6‑7 standard lightweight framed photos (glass included) or 4 medium‑weight frames. Heavier frames with thick solid wood moulding or glass exceeding 2 mm in thickness should be distributed evenly and may require reducing the total count. The shelf weighs 1.8 kg unpackaged. It is delivered fully assembled with no installation template; users must mark the three screw positions using a level and tape measure. The ledge is not designed for books (due to shallow depth), 3D objects like sculptures, or any item that overhangs the front edge, as these may create a tipping hazard. The nitrocellulose lacquer is sensitive to alcohol and acetone – cleaning with solvents other than mild soapy water is not advised. This product is suitable for living rooms, hotel corridors, office waiting areas, or above desks where rotating artwork is common. Installation requires a drill with a 6 mm bit, a cross‑head screwdriver, and a spirit level. The back rail height is fixed and cannot be adjusted; frames with significantly angled backs (e.g., thick swing‑type stands) may not sit flush against the rail and might lean more forward than intended, potentially overcoming the groove retention.
