Description
This wall‑mounted bookshelf is specifically designed for displaying children’s picture books with their covers facing outward to encourage reading selection. The unit is constructed from solid maple wood with a water‑based clear acrylic finish that meets the ASTM F963‑17 safety standard for surface coatings on children’s products. The shelf consists of a rectangular backboard 60 cm wide and 40 cm high, with a bottom support ledge that projects 10 cm forward and a front retaining lip 3 cm high at the edge of that ledge. The space between the backboard and the lip is 8 cm deep, which accommodates standard hardcover and paperback picture books up to 30 cm in height and 1.5 cm in spine thickness; approximately 6 to 8 books can be displayed side‑by‑side depending on their thickness. The backboard has rounded corners (radius 10 mm) and all exposed edges are sanded to a smooth radius to reduce injury risk. The unit mounts to the wall via two keyhole slots on the back panel, requiring two screws (provided with wall plugs for masonry) placed 50 cm apart. The bottom ledge features an EVA foam strip adhered to the underside to reduce vibration noise against the wall during installation, but this strip is not a structural component. The maple wood has a Janka hardness of 1,450 lbf, providing good resistance to impacts and scratches from children’s handling. The recommended load is 3 kg total, which corresponds to approximately 8 typical lightweight picture books. The clear acrylic finish is non‑toxic and free from volatile organic compounds above 50 g/L, but it is not waterproof; liquid spills should be wiped immediately to prevent water marks. The shelf is not intended for heavy encyclopedias, board book collections exceeding 1.5 kg total, or any object that protrudes beyond the front lip, as this would compromise stability. The empty weight is 1.6 kg. The shelf is supplied fully assembled; installation only requires a drill with a 6 mm bit and a screwdriver. For drywall, it is recommended to locate wall studs behind the mounting points, as the supplied anchors alone may not hold the load reliably over time with repeated book removal and replacement.
