Description
This wall shelf is designed specifically for displaying potted plants with a built‑in water management feature. It is constructed from solid teak wood, a naturally durable tropical hardwood that contains high levels of silica and natural oils, providing inherent resistance to moisture and fungal decay without requiring additional sealing. The main shelf board measures 55 cm in width, 20 cm in depth, and 2.5 cm in thickness. The teak surface has been lightly sanded to a 120‑grit finish and left unsealed to allow natural breathability, meaning the wood will develop a silver‑grey patina over time if exposed to light – this is a normal and expected characteristic of untreated teak. The distinctive feature of this unit is a foldable drip tray positioned 8 cm below the shelf surface, made from food‑grade polypropylene with a capacity of approximately 500 ml. The tray is attached to the underside of the shelf via two pivoting metal arms that allow it to fold flat against the wall when not in use, reducing the overall depth from 20 cm to 5 cm. When folded down horizontally, the tray sits level and can catch excess water draining from pots placed on the shelf above. The tray has raised edges (2.5 cm high) to contain spills. The shelf itself has four small drainage channels routed into the top surface – these are shallow grooves 3 mm deep that direct any water pooling beneath pots toward the front edge, from where it drips directly into the tray below. The shelf mounts to the wall using two stainless steel brackets that are fixed to the wall with four expansion bolts (supplied). The brackets are 18 cm deep and have a load rating of 8 kg total, evenly distributed across the shelf surface. The teak wood has a Janka hardness of approximately 1,070 lbf, giving it good resistance to compression from pot bases. The recommended number of plants is three to four pots up to 15 cm in diameter, with a combined pot and soil weight not exceeding 6 kg. The drip tray should be emptied manually after each watering; it is not self‑draining. The product is not suitable for plants that require constant saturation or for outdoor use where rain would fill the tray beyond capacity. The polypropylene tray is UV‑stabilized to resist cracking but will become brittle in freezing temperatures – avoid installation in unheated areas subject to frost. The total empty weight of the shelf plus tray mechanism is 2.6 kg. The shelf is supplied partially assembled: the brackets and tray arms are pre‑attached to the shelf, but the wall brackets must be fixed to the wall first, then the shelf is lowered onto them. Installation requires a drill with an 8 mm bit, a level, and a 13 mm spanner for the bracket bolts. This unit is intended for indoor use in living rooms, sunrooms, or conservatories with adequate natural light, but away from direct heating vents that may dry out plants excessively.
